It was a quiet weekend sports-wise on the local front, but it ended on a high note with two wins over Australian opponents.
First-up the Vodafone Warriors dealt to the Paramatta Eels 35-6. Given the number of players sidelined through injury (a list too large to even try and post!), this was an excellent effort by the Warriors, who now move solidly into the NRL's top eight. The Warriors were totally dominant in the second half to record their third successive win, and they're coming into form at the right end of the season. In fact the Warriors haven't lost since the Mad Butcher, Sir Peter Leitch was knighted in the Queen's Birthday honours, so all power to the titular system!
And we don't talk about netball much. Until yesterday, New Zealand teams had only won one match in Australia in three seasons of the ANZ Championship. Until yesterday; the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic upset the Sydney Swifts in the elimination final, and now play Adelaide in the Grand Final next weekend. The Magic played brilliantly, and like the Warriors, are in form when it matters - great stuff!
