Good onya Kerre

Whilst we berated the Herald yesterday for their reporting of Keisha Castle-Hughes' latest personal drama, we'll cut them some slack for happy story; at least it's relevant to the day that yesterday was:

It was a day with a difference, and Kerre Woodham used a leap year tradition to hook the man of her dreams by proposing to long-time partner Tom McIvor.

The broadcaster was one of the many women who took advantage of the February 29 custom - where women can propose to men - to pop the question.

Yesterday, Woodham posted a photo of a card that read, "I choose you" on Facebook accompanied with the message:

"... and he chose me. I'll be Mrs McIvor - officially - within the next 12 months."

Woodham did not want to discuss the details of how she proposed to her long-time and extremely private partner but she said he wasn't surprised.

The broadcaster and columnist said she didn't expect the overwhelming response to her announcement.

She said until there was a ring and a date, it was more "a declaration of intent".

We caught wind of this on Twitter last evening after Kerre Woodham made her gramd announcement. Good on her and her Irishman; we wish them every happiness, and we commend Kerre for seizing a once-every-four-years opportunity.

Oddly, this story brought a tear to my eye. Must be getting soft in my dotage. Mind you, I can't watch chick flicks either. (Sigh)

OTOH, the follow-up Alison Mau story left me with a little bit of sick in my mouth. Go figure.

Pedant alert: The last para of the Mau story starts "Her and Dallow split in 2009..." Call me old-fashioned, but shouldn't that read "She and Dallow..."?

There's nothing old-fashioned about basic spelling and grammar Jonno; but it seems to be off the curriculum at Journalism School.
