We had an e-mail from the Herald on Sunday yesterday. Blogging must have been pretty dire this week, because they wanted to make our post from yesterday on the asset sales protest in Wanganui their Blog of the Week.
We were hesitant initally, as they were asking for a name. We replied as we have in the past citing that we blog anonymously for good reasons, and so were surprised when they got back to us and said they'd use the post anyway and anonymously; they must have been getting desperate at 6pm last night! So when we read the HoS in a Mt Eden cafe at lunchtime today, there we were!
Interestingly, we note that around a thousand people marched in Auckland yesterday on a fine, mild Saturday afternoon, not that we bothered to go and have a look. Out of Auckland's population of well over a million, that's around the same percentage of the population protesting. On this occasion, those opposing asset sales can genuinely claim to be the 0.1%, whilst those of us who couldn't muster the enthusiasm are the 99.9%!

That's cool!!!

Congratulations, KS. At least they asked you. The few times they have used MacDoctor posts, the first I've known about it is reading it in the HoS!
As protests go, this one was, as you pointed out, uninspiring and insignificant.
Cheers for that Macdoc, but I disagree with your final word; a low turnout such as this is anything but insignificant. The battle has already been fought and lost, and most of the usual suspects can't even be bothered fighting it any more.
Congrats.
Well done.
Some very salubrious feeding and watering holes in your part of town QH; the waistline is taking a pounding!
Congrats, a great mixture of posts, keep it up
Well done KS..And the post in question now shows as a JH-free zone.
Congratulations, and you're right the low number was significant.
It was actually about 3 thousand that marched KS - not one thousand - and i don't think that number would be indicative of how many people in our country oppose the sake of our assets.
I oppose it - as does everyone else that i know - unfortunately though i don't have the time or inclination to spend my time or money in the city on a Saturday when i am in there every other day of the week. Weekends are for family.
To suggest that only 1000 Aucklanders oppose asset sales is beyond silly - and you would know that.
I suspect most people will be protesting with their votes in 2014 and i can't wait.
Congrats re the HOS. Words mean a lot more when you know where they are coming from though. :)

I didit count them yesterday but two weeks ago I did, what was reported as a thousand was actually 250 - 300, so unless you actually count the legs and arms and halve them not double them the figures will always be wildly inflated.
"Beyond silly" - decribing your comment Jackie perhaps. Everyone I know supports the Governments action so enough emotional twaddle please and go with the facts
2014 will bring the proof of the pudding, but many Kiwis are against Asset sales, the sheeple are not dumb.
KS - don't you think our assets are worth retaining, and do you agree that Key really has a mandate for selling us down the river?
